Wayfinder’s Relaunch Offers a Fresh Take on the Game
After a wild development journey, Airship Syndicate has finally relaunched Wayfinder. This new release comes with the Echoes update, offering an overhauled gameplay experience for current and new players.
The developers have ditched the initial free-to-play MMO model, which was supposed to release later this year, and Wayfinder can now be played solo or with friends, as a 3-player cooperative mode has been added to the game
The world of Evenor, plagued by a dark force called the Gloom, remains at the center of the game’s action. Fresh quest content has been added to the story, including a new area called Frostmarch.
You take on the role of a Wayfinder, a powerful hero whose task is to defeat the Gloom and cleanse the world of its power. You can choose from three starting characters, each of whom possesses unique skills, combat styles, and abilities. Silo is a master of ranged combat, Wingrave is a close-combat fighter with healing skills, and Niss is a high-mobility dagger virtuoso. Additional characters can be unlocked through quests, missions, or found as drops by defeating specific bosses. As players progress through the game, they can gather 10 memory cards to learn about their chosen character’s past before the Gloom and receive additional bonuses.
30 Wayfinder ranks are featured in the game. When you achieve a rank, a talent point is given, which you can spend in the Talent tree. Some of the ranks also have additional bonuses such as boosts to your base stats, granting you increased strength, defensive powers, agility, and much more.
The Echoes update introduces 10 new weapons and significant changes compared to the previous version of the game. Now, players can acquire weapons as drops by defeating foes, purchasing them from vendors, or receiving them as quest rewards. These weapons have set levels and stats and do not level up as players are accustomed to. Weapon abilities can be enhanced with the help of accessories. Choose them carefully, as a specific set of accessories provides additional bonuses to your weapons, enhancing your chances of survival in battles.
There is a wide range of armor sets to choose from as well. Each Wayfinder can collect 9 different sets, made from 5 separate pieces dropped as gear, purchased from vendors, or obtained by completing quests.
Different locations can be reached through gateways, which are unlocked with the mysterious Gloom Daggers. Airship Syndicate emphasizes the modifiers, which allow you to customize the areas you explore, enemies and bosses you confront, and materials and gear you find. Players can select from five imbuements: Solar, Flora, Greed, Chaos, and Shadow, each adding unique specifics to the game.
After wandering in the Gloom and fighting monsters, you can rest in your own apartment that is unlocked as a reward upon completing quests. The game offers around 550 different housing items, so you will have plenty to choose from when decorating your ‘dragon’s nest’.
You can get Wayfinder on Steam for $24.99. The Echoes update will launch on PlayStation 5 in summer, while Xbox players will have to wait for the full game’s release, coming later this year.
