Serum: The Next Playtest is Launching Soon

Game Island announced a 2nd playtest for their upcoming story-driven survival game Serum. Along with this news, we got some more details about the game and what they have been working on since the last Steam Demo.

The game is set on a remote island, the location of the main base of EVAS Corporation. The land is renowned for its life-saving liquid, which is the main ingredient to create the serum that can cure the blight. You need to inject yourself with a serum to counteract the effects of The Blight every few minutes. If you don’t do this, you will fall victim to the mysterious disease, much like the mutated animals and other humanoids in the game. Therefore, finding and harvesting resources is a critical part if you want to survive in the game. As you explore the island, you will come across organic materials such as plants and animals, as well as other crafting components like batteries, nails, scrap metal, and welding electrodes. With these resources, you will be able to enhance your abilities by crafting different kinds of serums and better equipment, and expand your base facilities.

Upon reviewing player feedback from the Steam Next Fest demo, the developers recognized they needed to improve the intuitiveness of the crafting and brewing system. With this in mind, they have implemented a new layout for the brewing UI, which should make the process easier to understand and will be available in the upcoming playtest.

Many players had questions regarding the cable cars seen in the demo, such as whether they would be able to use them to fast travel between biomes. While the devs did not outright confirm this as their purpose, they did mention that players are encouraged to investigate them when the game releases.

A new playtest has been announced for April 24th and will last for one week. You can apply for this test on Steam. It will feature more content than the Next Fest demo, so if you’ve already played the game during the previous one, expect new things to explore.

Will you be joining the new playtest? Let me know in the comments.
